Calgary Real Estate today!

This article is so amazing!
As the saying goes:
"ATTITUDE IS A SMALL THING THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE!"

Lifelong Learning
Still Cracking the Books at 95
By Tamar Snyder
Nola Ochs is a living textbook. During history courses, the 95-year-old regaled her much younger classmates with memories of dodging the dust storms in the 1930s that threatened to destroy her family farm in Kansas. “It was dark as night, even after we turned the lamps on,” Ochs says. She also shared tales of cattle drives, life as a farmwife, and living without running water. Ochs made history when she graduated in May 2007 with a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University in Kansas. She’s the oldest college graduate in the world and will be entered in Guinness World Records 2008. Learning keeps her alive, she says. Come September, Ochs plans to head back to school--and start working on her master’s degree. “There’s something within me that wants to keep learning,” she says. “I just can’t quit.”

A former teacher at a one-room schoolhouse in rural Kansas, Ochs married in 1933 and raised four children. It wasn’t until 1972, when her husband Vernon died, that she began taking classes at Dodge City Community College. Last fall, she moved into student housing at Fort Hays, where her granddaughter Alexandra was also a student, and completed the final 30 hours toward a general-studies degree. Still sprightly, Ochs checks her e-mail every morning before breakfast, and drives her own car. “I encourage the elderly to keep up their driving skills,” she says, recommending American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) refresher courses for confidence boosters.
What’s her secret to a healthy and productive longevity? Don’t dwell on your age. “People think I’m supposed to be sitting in a chair, crocheting,” she says, laughing at the thought. “If we don’t think about how old we are, that helps give us the enthusiasm to get up and do something.” Her son, Alan, attributes his mother’s vitality to her good attitude. Ochs is preparing for a summer cruise to the Caribbean aboard the Crown Princess with her granddaughter. She’ll share with passengers stories from her past and participate in a question-and-answer session. “I always told people I wanted to be a storyteller on a cruise ship,” she says. “Now I’ll get my chance.”

This is the place life really started for me!

Well here I am again! Sometimes I just can't seem to think of anything to say.
Joshua 24:15 Choose you this day whom you will serve....As for me and my house we will serve the Lord
I have been thinking lately about the real differences that getting the Holy Ghost and serving God makes in peoples lives. I would like to have all of you respond and tell where you were headed before and how God made the difference.
As for me, I was only 7 years old. I was just a little girl, but there was something in me that was yearning for God. I used to go to a differnet Sunday School, but I missed my ride one Sunday morning and was sitting in the window crying because of it. I had a friend who went to a Pentecostal Church and saw me that Sunday on her way to Sunday School and asked me to go with her. My parents did not go to church at all and the funny thing is, neither did hers. I went and the Sunday School teacher taught about Jesus and that he would not like to hear us saying bad words. I went home and my mother swore at me. I started to cry and told her that Jesus did not like this talk. My mother was obviously hungry for God because she started to go to that church and soon got the Holy Ghost. She served God faithfully and with all of her passionate heart until her death just a few years ago. I come from a family that was very deep in sin, full of divorce and alchoholism and lots of other sin. Sin is a dead end street. Most of them are still living this dead and empty life. I can only imagine where I would be if it had not been for that change in my Mom that God wrought. I have nothing to boast about and I still have a long way to go, but I thank God for the differnce he made in my course. I pray that I can be as faithful to Him and His word as my mother was and that I can go even futher in Him . I also thank Him for the path I see my children taking. Their life is so profoundly different than even mine was, because of the Holy Ghost legacy He has given to me. It seems that each generation of serving God, just gets better and better. Everything good in my life is a direct result of serving God!
Now I would love to hear from you.

PS

Above are the churches I was raised in. The little old one was where I received the Holy Ghost. This building holds many precious memories for me. We had some rockin services there! I remember one week long revival that the preacher preached about attitude and how very important it is, every night of the week. There are many other memories that I can't even begin to tell it all.

The newer building is the one I spent the the rest of my single years in. It was the church that I was married in and where my mother's funeral was held. I actually helped pound nails in this building. It was an exciting time building that church for us young people. I also have many wonderful memories in this church. It is the church that is still being used today. My life revolved around these places. I loved the church. It was my pride and joy!

The beginnings of my garden.

Gardening season is here again and I just read a post by Kara about the unfolding of the rose. This poem is never heard by me without it bringing to mind the message preached by Bro. V. Morton "Just let it unfold". The first time I heard this message was at a little church we rented just off of 14st. for a conference many years ago and I have heard it many times since. It has been a tremendous blessing to me. The message was of course born through much suffering on the part of Bro Morton.
I got to thinking about the process of the blooming flowers we are about to once again enjoy. Many of them, especially the ones that survive year after year, have once again come through the hard, cold winter. They have had to die off each fall and lay dormant for a while, then they have to get the rain, improvements to the soil have to be added, and the soil must be broken up. Finally the sun comes out and they break into bloom and are beautiful once again. Often during the spring or fall they also have to suffer the pruning process, the cutting away of useless and dead branches or just branches that hinder it from being shaped just right.
In our lives, (the Bible says we are the planting of the Lord) we also have to go through these times of drought, cold wintery days, breaking of the soil of our hearts, prunings and finally the days of sun shine come again. In order to be the beautiful flowers God intends our lives to become, we must endure and survive all of these times. The key is to Let God Unfold The Rose!! Let His hands do the work in our lives. He is the master gardener!

For all of you who love to garden, enjoy this time of year and let it be a time of renewing of your minds and refreshing of your hearts.

Change: Sometimes a painful process!Malachi 3:6 I am the Lord, I change not:

God is the only being that has the right to declare "I CHANGE NOT!" I recently read this in a reflections magazine and thought it was an amazing statement. It went on to say that His perfection precluded change and our imperfections demand it! WOW!

If we are to get the most out of our life and relationships, we must be willing to change. We can't just say " this is the way I am, get used to it" and expect to have great relationships. We need to get outside our small little world, open our eyes and see how our words and actions are affecting those we live with and come in contact with everyday. Love will dictate change! If we want to become more like Jesus, then we must be willing to change and allow Him to work out the imperfections that fill our life.

The article went on to say that it often takes a crisis or difficult time to affect change in us. It is God's way of bringing about the changes that must take place if we are to be perfected because we are naturally resistent to change. When these times come, we can resist and refuse to change, we can run and hide or we can submit to it and be sustained and renewed by God.

Angie,
March 14, 1989 was a year of celebration for us! God blessed us with a baby girl after 3 boys! What a day that was. I hardly dared believe Dad when he told me it was a girl. Since that time you have continued to be a greater and greater blessing to me. When you smile, (which you do easily) you light up the room and when that smile is turned to me, I feel like heaven has kisssed me. I love seeing you happy with your friends. It has brought me so much joy just seeing you and hearing you laughing and having a great time. It makes the house feel like a happy place. I can't stand the thought of you ever leaving, and although I know that it will happen, it won't be the same without you and your friends coming and going. I hope you pop in all the time to say hi. Until then I am enjoying every minute with you!
You never cease to amaze me with your talents and ideas. You are always thinking of something and you are very persistent in pursuing it when you get an idea in your head. Let this trait be a strength to you. I am constantly thinking "WOW, that is my girl, she is so amazing" and I am so proud of you!! You are graduating high school this year and I am anticipating where you go and what you accomplish in your life. You are a good and a hard worker.
Not only are you the most beautiful girl in the world physically, but you are so beautiful inside as well, which is much more important than the outward beauty. You have a sensitive spirit and care for people when they are hurt. I am thankful for that. People need that love and care.
You are a true friend and make friends easily. You are fun to have around.
I love it how the younger girls want to be with you. That did not come without you first loving them. You are making friends for life by investing time into these younger ones. Not many girls your age have the time or the care to go and get a little girl and spend time with her doing her hair and making cookies etc. One day they may need someone and you will have already established repoire with them. It will pay dividends. Not only for them, but for you as well.
You have a sweet, but strong spirit and you know your own mind! You are sensible and don't have your head turned easily. Keep thinking with your head and don't let your emotions override common sense.
I know that God has his hand upon you. You have never wavered in your walk with the Lord and righteous living. You truly are a lady and conduct yourself as such. Keep your hand in His and let Him unfold the rose in your life. You are a true Christian girl! You have never given us one moment of concern. Thank you so much for that!
I love you so much and can't even begin to put into words what you are, and what you mean to me and many others.
You are someone I love to call my daughter!
With all the love of my heart,
MOM

I got this little saying from Sis. Hurst's blog and thought it was worth considering. Anyone needing a boost today should read her newest posting. It is very uplifting and something I'm sure all of us can relate to.
A Little Tidbit
We make a living by what we get,
but we make a life by what we give.

Just taking the time to give a word , a smile, or a touch to someone can make such a difference. The secret is, you don't know who needs it, so give freely to everyone around you! Just become that kind of person, regardless of your own feelings. We all know that we don't live our life or make our decisions based on how we feel. If we did, we would make a mess! We govern our life and decisions on doing the right thing. So reach out and give as much as you can with what you've got!
Thaks to everyone who has ever given, on any level, to me. You have enhanced my life!

Kenny,

When I look at your sweet little baby pictures, they bring back so many wonderful memories. Sometimes I just look at the pictures and cry for the joy in life that you gave me. Right from the time you were a baby you had such spunk! Oh the stories I could tell!
You are definitley the Joker and the Prankster of the family. Life is never dull when you are around. You have a lot of laughter in you and a "little" mischeviousness. Oh all of the scrapes you have gotten into, from falling from your skateboard and knocking your teeth out before kindergarten to knocking yourself out on your BMX just before graduation! You have given us all so much fun ( and fear) through out the years! Life was never boring with you around and would never have been the same without you! You have added joy and energy to this family.
You have to be one of the most personable and lovable people. I don't think there has ever been a single person , that meeting you for the first time, has not loved you and continues to love you, from neighbors and church family, to people you have done "business" with ( lawn mowing, raking, snow shoveling etc.)(You are industrious and a hard worker, as are all of your siblings!) I have met up with people that have known you from years ago, ask about you and tell me over and over what a great kid you are and I have to agree with them. You are the kind of person that has never met a stranger and can establish instant repoire with people.
You have strengths you don't even realize are there!
When I think of you, I see raw untapped Potential with a capital P. As pastor King told you on your graduation day, You have a winning smile and can accomplish just about anything you put your mind to. How true that is.
I have watched you grow and mature over this last year in ways that you possibly aren't even aware of . Little thoughtful, unselfish things you do or say.
God has blessed you with a very quick and intelligent mind. I know I am rambling, but I wish I could convey to you how very special you are and what great strenghths you posess. You also have a very sensitive side that not many have seen, but I know it's there. I also know that God has His hand on your life and is directing you. When you and He finally come together, all I have to say is look out world, because it's gonna be great! You have charisma and leadership ability. You are strong and you are a leader. Let the love of God crowd out everything else and fill your heart and you will make a profound difference in the lives of others.
You have a Mom and Dad that love you , 2 brother's who think you're the bomb, and a sister that adores you and will not tolerate anyone dissing you!
I love you so much and I know the world is going to be a better place because of your influence!!
Love ,
Mom

Me and the CEO and President of Century 21 Canada. This is at the awards banquet where I received the emerald pin. If I look nervous it's because I was!

John,
You have grown into a man that I am very proud to call my son. you have grown and matured so wonderfully!
I love you so much. You don't know how special all of your hugs have meant to me over the years. All of the times when your sense of humor has lightened things up. All of the thougtful things you say and do mean so much to all of us. God sure did meet a need when He blessed this family with you.
You've always had the ability to make me smile. You have such a tender heart and are always so sensitive and caring.
The love for the family is formost with you. You are definitely a family man. Every one of us can count on you . We know that you will be there for us, no matter what!
You are a very trustworthy and loyal person. Make sure that your loyalties are always well placed. People will let you down and the heart can be easily bruised with a spirit like yours, but never allow it to harden you. Forgive and move on. Your lovingness (if that's a word is your trademark. Don't ever allow offenses to crowd that out. Always allow your sense of fairplay to work for you and not against you.
You have been such a blessing to Dad and you will never know how much that means to him. He needs you more than you even realize. You are an incredibly special person to all of us. I don't know what I'll do when you move out. You will take a part of the sunshine with you for sure. Keep yourself commited to God. Get as close to Him as you can. Get to know him. Follow his word and don't let people or situations interfere, but let every thing that happens, big or small, bring you to a place of knowing God, His word, and His ways, more clearly.
You are my sunshine and I love you dearly!!

Anna praying for her mom, Mindy. So sweet!

Last night was one of those services where God was ministering to people's needs in such a special way.
This was one of those moments that just have to be captured. Precious moments of life!

David!
I love you so much! You have always been such an awesome son! You are my pride and joy! I know what your life has been. I have seen how you have handled dissapointment and trouble. It has always been God's way with you no matter what . Whether sunny or stormy weather, doing the right thing has been paramount. I know it will continue to be that way forever with you! God's blessings rest on you because of your commitment to him. It won't always be easy, but it will always be better with God than without Him, that I know for sure and then there is Heaven. There will also be many days of sunshine. Thank God for every one of those days and enjoy them to the fullest.
I just feel so special that God actually allowed me to be the mother of you! I mean that with all my heart! You are a son that many only dream of. Thank you for being who you are!
MOM

Just a thought...

The closer we get to God and the more at one with Him and His purpose for our life we become, the less we feel the need to impress other peaple and the more fulfulled we feel, because we are finding our worth thru His eyes and focusing on pleasing Him. It becomes less about us and more about the ones around us that are important. We feel much more content with our life and who we are when we start reflecting His word, His ways, and His glory!
This is not coming out right, the way I feel it so I think I'll stop now and get back to work!
Love you all!
